RE (Religious Education) and World Views

At Grange Park Primary school, we believe that it is important for all our children to learn from and about religion, so that they can understand the world around them. Through the teaching of RE our children:

  • Acquire and develop knowledge and understanding of Christianity and the other principal religions represented in Great Britain
  • Appreciate the way that religious beliefs shape life and behaviour
  • Develop the ability to make reasoned and informed judgements about religious and moral issues and enhance their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

At Grange Park we follow the Telford and Wrekin Agreed Syllabus for World Views and RE. RE has an important place in the curriculum. It provides a safe space for our children to develop their understanding of all people, cultures, faith and beliefs and relationships. Through using the Telford and Wrekin agreed syllabus our children gain a coherent understanding of religions and worldviews, preparing them for life in a postmodern 21st century world. The concepts covered through the teaching of RE can be seen as the ‘golden thread’ which weaves through all of the units. This is an integral part of RE learning. RE is not about cultures and practices that are alien; it is about the beliefs and practices of people who our children may encounter in everyday life experiences. The Telford and Wrekin Agreed Syllabus has selected the following religious for children to study:

• Christianity/Understanding Christianity

• Islam

• Judaism

• Hinduism

• Buddhism

• Sikhism

The RE curriculum follows a logical progression to ensure that new knowledge and skills build on what has been taught before. This enables our children to know more and remember more.

Enhancement

  • RE and World Views are explored during school assemblies.
  • Book sharing across the school where RE and World Views are addressed and then discussed.
  • Visits or Visitors linked to religions taught in each year groups e.g. Year 4 visit a Gurdwara.
  • All year groups engage with activities and events organised by Telford Minster.

As stated in the ‘Religious Education in English Schools Non-Statutory Guidance 2010’, parents have the right to withdraw children from all or part of the RE curriculum.

If you would like to do this, then please contact your child's class or let the school office know. Alternative work would be planned for this time in the curriculum.
