Computing
Computing at Grange Park is mainly delivered using the NCCE ‘Teach Computing’ curriculum. Our curriculum offer is based on a spiral curriculum. This means that each of the themes is revisited regularly (at least once in each year group), and pupils revisit each theme through a new unit that consolidates and builds on prior learning within that theme. This style of curriculum suits our learners as revisiting topics annually reduces the amount of knowledge lost through forgetting. It also ensures that connections are made. However, units are not seen in isolation; in computing there are many interconnecting ‘networks’ that appear in more than one unit across the year. The four areas covered through the ‘Teach Computing’ curriculum are:
- Computer systems and networks
- Creating media
- Programming
- Data and information
Supplementary to the NCCE scheme of work we also use ‘Project Evolve’ resources to teach E-safety. Project Evolve prepares learners for the digital world. Online Safety is taught right across the school, starting in Reception as we believe that supporting children to make good online decisions from an early age is the best way of keeping them safe as they become more exposed to the digital world. We cover the following eight strands annually at an age-appropriate level:
- Self image and identify
- Online relationships
- Online Bullying
- Copyright and ownership
- Online reputation
- Managing online information
- Privacy and security
- Health, wellbeing and lifestyle
