Music

Music at Grange Park is taught through the Charanga offer. Charanga is supplemented by using some of the Sing Up resources. Half termly music units are well sequenced; developing children’s musicality – singing, listening, music appreciation, music appraisal and performing, improvising and composing. An integral part of our music curriculum is that children learn the inter-related dimensions of music – pulse, rhythm, pitch, tempo, dynamics, timbre, texture, structure and notation.  These dimensions are at the centre of all music learning. Our Music provision is cyclical and creates a learning spiral. Children develop new musical skills and concepts as well as revisiting established musical skills and concepts to ensure the retention of key music knowledge and skills which will allow children to move up through the spiral.

During their time at Grange Park children will learn to play a range of different musical instruments. Children start off by playing untuned percussion instruments in EYFS, children in KS1 play both tuned and untuned percussion instruments, in Year 3 children play the glockenspiel, in Year 4 play the recorder (woodwind), in Year 5 play the Ukulele (string) and in Year 6 use computer technology to make music.
